Introduction
The use of 308nm excimer ultraviolet light in the treatment of vitiligo is related to T cell apoptosis, and immunohistochemical methods show that 308nm excimer ultraviolet light can clear T lymphocytes infiltrated in skin lesions.
The study found that 308nm excimer ultraviolet light can promote the apoptosis of activated T cells in the skin lesions of vitiligo. After irradiation, T cells can undergo apoptosis, so that the skin lesions not only disappear completely at the macroscopic level, but also restore their tissue structure to normal at the microscopic level.
Vitiligo is characterized by selective destruction of melanocytes, likely related to an autoimmune response. The excimer UV light with a wavelength of 308 nm in the narrow-spectrum medium-wave UV light has an immunomodulatory effect that immunizes cells and autologous humors, which stabilizes the depigmentation process. Recent studies have shown that various cytokines and inflammatory mediators are increased after exposure to excimer UV light, suggesting that this is a mechanism by which excimer UV light induces pigment recovery.
